Guangxi Research Institute of Metallurgy visits Asian Metal

On the morning of February 16th 2017, Haihong Zhan, the deputy director of Metallurgical Engineering and Material Design Institute, and Chaowei Luo, the senior engineer in Guangxi Research Institute of Metallurgy (“GRIM” for short) visited Eric Qiu, the rare earth market analyst of Asian Metal. The two sides made a discussion on scandium oxide, aluminum scandium alloy and other scandium oxide products.

Deputy Director Zhan introduced the progress of research work, the development of production of scandium products and the scandium plants’ situation in Guangxi and other provinces, and the two parties discussed around the market price, production cost and technical standard and other aspects. Eric introduced the visitors the major scandium products’ plants and the downstream application situation, and pointed out that the scandium oxide 99.99%min market is in heavily oversupply and witnesses gradually compressed profit space. Eric stressed that Chinese scandium manufactures are faced with the contradictory problem and big challenges of “Declining price to promote development of downstream industries” and “Surviving under market circumstances of thin profits”. At last, Eric said that the Asian Metal will take advantages of market platform to provide the efficient market information and promote the sale for GRIM.
Founded in 1958, the GRIM is one of China’s earliest scientific research units to carry out research in scandium purification technology and the only institute that engaged in metal and non-metal scientific research, application and engineering design in Guangxi Province. The institute has independently developed 99.9-99.999% high purity scandium oxide products since 1990s. In recent years, GRIM further enhances advantages in resource and technology of scandium as a base of national torch plan "The comprehensive recovery of scandium resources and the demonstration of high purity scandium production” and scandium materials engineering technology research center of Guangxi Province.
