Chinese bismuth ingot prices keep falling

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 18 Jul 13 – Chinese bismuth ingot prices keep falling this week and the trading remains thin. The mainstream offers for bismuth ingot decrease by around RMB1,000-2,000/t (USD0.07-0.14/lb) further to RMB100,000-102,000/t (USD7.42-7.57/lb) currently and the market even sees some prices at below RMB100,000/t (USD7.42/lb). The export market is weak and the offers for bismuth ingot in the export market decrease further to around USD7.9-8.1/lb and some offers are a bit lower.
One of the major bismuth ingot producer in China told Asian Metal that they quote the material at RMB100,000/t (USD7.42/lb) this week, down by RMB2,000/t (USD0.14/lb) against that of late last week. In the export market, the source claimed that they lower offers slightly further to around USD8.0/lb this week.
The source noted that the market also sees some lower offers, but still few deals are concluded under the weak demand. “July and August is usually the off season and it is unlikely for the market to see improvement until September,” commented the source.
A bismuth ingot producer in China claimed that they ran with an output of around 100tpm previously and stopped production in June due to the dull market. They now have a stock of around 100t in hand. “Some offers decrease to RMB100,000/t (USD7.42/lb) this week but few deals can be concluded at the level. A few suppliers have lowered prices to RMB95,000/t (USD7.05/lb) to clear stocks and it is also hard to seal deals as the demand is weak. We seldom received inquiries recently,” said the source.
Looking ahead, the source thinks that Chinese bismuth market will continue to be slow in the near future and the prices are likely to decrease further.
