Chinese bismuth ingot prices keep dropping

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 24 Jul 13 – Chinese bismuth market continues to be dull and prices drop further. The prices for bismuth ingot go down by RMB1,000/t (USD0.07/lb) further to RMB97,000-99,000/t (USD7.20-7.35/lb) this week and the market also sees some lower prices.
A bismuth dioxide producer in China reported that bismuth dioxide market was dull in the recent several months and their output decreased from 20tpm last year to 10tpm recently. Moreover, if the market keeps dull, they will reduce output further next week.
The source claimed that the mainstream offers for bismuth ingot decrease by RMB1,000-2,000/t (USD0.07-0.14/lb) further to RMB97,000/t (USD7.20/lb) this week. They expect bismuth ingot prices to drop further and purchase from hand-to-mouth now.
A bismuth ingot exporter in China told Asian Metal that the offers for bismuth ingot go down further from RMB98,000/t (USD7.28/lb) late last week to RMB96,000-97,000/t (USD7.13-7.20/lb) this week. However, they receive few inquiries from overseas market and do not intend to make purchase, expecting Chinese bismuth ingot prices to decrease further.
The source claimed that it is even hard to sell bismuth ingot at USD7.5-7.6/lb in the export market now. “European bismuth buyers are leaving market for the summer holiday gradually and bismuth market will remain weak until late August. We do not want to hold stocks in hand now,” said the source.
