BEIJING (Asian Metal) 29 Jan 14 - According to data from National Bureau of Statistics, China produced 16,402t of tin ingot in December 2013, the highest level in the past three years. The volume was up by 7% month-on-month and up by 7% year-on-year.
In the fourth quarter of 2013, Chinese tin concentrate imports kept rising, and the material supply turned relatively abundant in the domestic market. In addition, some producers increased tin production to fulfill their output targets. However, as domestic demand remained slack and producers gained few profits from business, the production increase was limited.
Additionally, Chinese tin output reached 158,503t in 2013, up by 3% year-on-year, since domestic supply of tin concentrate was ample because of the rising Chinese imports.
In January, most consumers leave for the Spring Festival holiday, and the demand shrinks much. In addition, tin prices continue to decline, and some producers reduce or even suspend production. Therefore, tin production in January may decline to some extent.
