BEIJING (Asian Metal) 27 Feb 14 - Chinese bismuth ingot prices increased sharply in mid-February. Some suppliers sold large quantities of materials in late last week and early this week, and Chinese bismuth ingot prices stopped rising further. Most bismuth ingot plants began to hold back from selling materials again and raised offers by around RMB500-1,000/t (USD0.035-0.07/lb) further to RMB131,500-133,000/t (USD9.76-9.87/lb) on Wednesday.
A trader in China, with a regular trading volume of around 30tpm for bismuth ingot, reported that Chinese bismuth ingot prices increased sharply to around RMB132,000-133,000/t (USD9.80-9.87/lb) in mid-February and most plants were holding back from selling materials at the time. Some plants were active in selling materials in late last week and early this week, and the prices were around RMB131,000-132,000/t (USD9.72-9.80/lb). However, plants began to hold back from selling again and raised offers to RMB133,000-134,000/t (USD9.87-9.95/lb) on Wednesday.
The source noted that the demand for bismuth ingot was stable and they sold some materials at RMB134,000/t (USD9.95/lb) to downstream consumers early this week. A major bismuth ingot trader in China told Asian Metal that they purchased some bismuth ingot at RMB131,000-132,000/t (USD9.72-9.80/lb) early this week. It was hard to buy bismuth ingot in large quantities at the above level since Wednesday and plants raised offers again to RMB133,000-134,000/t (USD9.87-9.95/lb). Their selling price for bismuth ingot reached RMB135,000/t (USD10/lb) early this week. In the export market, the source claimed that the prices increased to USD10.3/lb FOB China early this week.
