At the beginning of 2015, tantalum concentrate market was quiet as participants remain on the sidelines due to the Christmases and Chinese New Year holidays. The current prices hover at USD79-81/lb CIF China and haven’t changed for a while
. Before the Chinese New Year holiday, foreign suppliers continue to hold inventories and wait to see how the market develops, while Chinese consumers were reluctant to buy, which resulted in a rather dull spot market . End-users will come back to market as the holiday ends at late February when Central Africa comes into monsoon, which will make the production and transportation even more difficult . Therefore, as the demand improves and supply tightens, price is likely to rise. At the end of Q1 the labeled products are expected to saw 10% increases to USD 90/lb CIF China . As a major consumer and producer of tantalum and niobium, with up to 70-80% consumption, China plays an important role in pushing the price up in the global market . Therefore, as the Chinese tantalum concentrate market experiences price rise, the global market will also improve.
