“We have an inquiry and intend to buy 20t of bismuth ingot 99.99%min this week. The mainstream quotations we received decreased from RMB72,000/t (USD5.15/lb) before the holiday to RMB70,000/t (USD5.01/lb) on Thursday. We wanted to purchase the material at RMB69,000/t (USD4.94/lb) and are waiting for suppliers’ reply,” said a trader in China. The trader claimed that the price for bismuth ingot increased sharply to around RMB80,000/t (USD5.73/lb) in mid-September and most suppliers held back from selling, however, few consumers were active in adding stocks at the time.
With a regular trading volume of around 40tpm for bismuth ingot, the trader claimed that they cleared stocks in late September, holding no materials in hand now. The source noted that many investors and traders built stocks of bismuth ingot 99,99%min at RMB64,000-66,000/t (USD4 . 58-4.72/lb) in the second half of August . As the demand was weak and price seemed hard to pick up further, they began to sell materials in late September .
