Chinese metallurgical grade niobium oxide prices firm

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 27 Jan 16 - Sources reported to Asian Metal that most of the domestic niobium market participants plan to leave the market for the coming Spring Festival Holiday, there is no deals concluded in Chinese niobium oxide market. Even the producers do not offer initially and there are no inquiries either. Prices for metallurgical grade niobium oxide are still staying at RMB158-163/kg (USD24-24.8/kg), the same with those of last week.
One niobium oxide producer in South China with an annual production capacity of 300t shared with Asian Metal that they do not offer for metallurgical grade niobium oxide currently as most consumers remain out of the market and delay purchasing raw material before the Spring Festival. “There will not be deals in domestic niobium market until the beginning of March,” said the source, adding that the plant reduced their output from 20t in regular to 15t in December.
According to the source, there is no room for the metallurgical grade niobium oxide price to continue to go down and current prices hover at RMB158-163/kg (USD24-24.8/kg), the same with those of last week. “We refuse to sell our materials at prices lower than RMB160/kg (USD24.3/kg) at the moment due to our high raw materials’ prices,” added the source. Commenting on the future market, the source said the prices for metallurgical grade niobium products will be stable in the following days.
Another niobium oxide producer whose annual production capacity of metallurgical grade niobium oxide is 200t in South China also confirmed that the Chinese niobium oxide market will see firm prices in the near future due to increasing niobium concentrate offers. The source also think that the prices for niobium oxide and other niobium products would go down continuously as current prices now are almost closed to the production cost. “I still hold the offer of metallurgical grade niobium oxide stable at RMB160/kg (USD24.3/kg), unchanged from that of last week,” said the source, holding five tons of stocks at the moment.
“We produced 12 tons of metallurgical grade niobium oxide last month and planned to cease production during the Spring Festival. As niobium concentrate offers increase, I believe that the niobium oxide prices will not decrease further before the holiday,” added the source, also thinking that the niobium prices will be stable in the following days.
