Guilin (Asian Metal) 30 Mar 07 – The Manganese Alloys Conference was held yesterday by the International Manganese Institute in Guilin, Guangxi, and around sixty companies attended. Representatives from IMnI, Eramet, Chinese Steel Association, Asian Metal, Japan Ferroalloy Association, National Development and Reform Commission, Jinneng Group and some others made reports about the market
Mr Dong Zhihong from Chinese Steel Association reported last year the global steel production grew by 8.8% compared with that the previous year, meanwhile the top tens are the same in 2005 and 2006 . Last year, production of five Chinese steel groups -- An-ben Steel, Bao Steel, Tangshan Steel, Changsha Steel and Wuhan Steel -- overtopped 10 million ton . Under the situation, demand for ferroalloys grows up as well .
Referring to hot topics about environmental protection and possible export tariff increase that participants are concerned, Mr Jia Yinsong from NDRC pointed out the restrictions on ferroalloys, electric aluminum and other power intensive industries as well as pollutive industries are designed as a long term to help the economy to develop healthily and steadily.
Amaud Tissidre from Eramet commented in his report that global high grade manganese ore production is decreasing but it is still plenty for the consumption market. He predicted that Chinese annual manganese ore demand would increase to 13 million ton .
As competition is the strong point of a market economy, the Chinese government will act better in macro controlling to drive up power intensive industries to upgrade.
