China announces new tariff on metals and steel export

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 21 May 07 - Ministry of Finance announced today that China will adjust current export tariff policies on metals and steel products, with new tariffs effective on 1 Jun. 2007.
Impose or raise current export tariffs on over 80 steel products by 5-10%, including wire, rod, bar, sheet, plate and sections;
Raise export tariffs on steel billet, ingot and pig iron from 10% to 15%;
Impose 10% export tariff on graphite, rare earth metals, lead, dyprosium oxide, terbium oxide and some nonferrous metals scrap and waste;
Impose 5-15% export tariff on ammonium metatungstate, molybdenum oxide, ammonium molybdate, sodium molybdate, magnesite and light/dead burned magnesite;
Raise export tariffs on ores of nickel, chromium, tungsten, manganese, molybdenum and rare earth metals by 10% to 15%.
Raise export tariffs on some ferroalloys and zinc from current 5-10% to 10-15%.
