Yunnan Tin Co., Ltd. recently said that the relatively sufficient supply of tin ore in China during the first five months of this year and the domestic-foreign price gap led to a higher-than-expected import volume of tin ingot in April and May, which hit the spot tin ingot in China. In addition, with the overall domestic demand for tin hit by the resurging COVID-19 cases, coupled with the tightened monetary policies implemented by major economies, tin prices have been hammered recently. However, from a global point of view, tin supply has a relatively low elasticity in the medium and long term. Meanwhile, with the impact of COVID-19 gradually winding down, and encouraged by various economic stimulus policies in China, the demand for integrated circuit, semiconductor and electronics is expected to pick up, which would then gradually drive up the demand for refined tin. Moreover, the rapid growth of photovoltaic and other industries in the coming years would further boost tin consumption.
