On August 1, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the Ministry of Ecological Environment jointly announced that the "Implementation Plan for Carbon Peaking in the Industrial Sector" has been formally approved.
According to the implementation plan, China will continue to cap primary aluminum production capacity and prevent blind expansion of smelting capacity of copper, lead, zinc, alumina, etc. In addition, China encourages more imports of high-quality secondary metal raw materials . By 2025, the country expects its direct alloying rate of aluminum liquid to exceed 90% and aims to produce 4 million tonnes of secondary copper and 11 . 5 million tonnes of secondary aluminum annually, with the supply proportion of recycled metals to reach above 24% . By 2030, more than 30% of primary aluminum will be produced by renewable energy.
