China's lithium battery industry kept an upward momentum during the September-October period of 2023 when the country's total lithium battery production exceeded 185GWh, up by 17% from the prior year period, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
From September to October, China's production of cathode materials, anode materials, diaphragm and electrolyte totaled 430,000 tonnes, 300,000 tonnes, 2.7 billion square meters, and 200,000 tonnes respectively, all registering an increase of more than 25% from a year ago. Production of lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide was around 81,000 tonnes and 46,000 tonnes respectively during the two-month period, with the average price for battery grade lithium carbonate and battery grade lithium hydroxide (micro powder) at RMB178,000/t (USD24,785) and RMB175,000/t (USD24,367/t) respectively.
