Southwest Aluminium kicks off construction of 1Mtpa aluminum alloy project

On January 13, a number of key manufacturing projects for the first quarter of 2024 broke ground in Chongqing, including Southwest Aluminium's 1 million-tonne-per-annum aluminum alloy materials project.
With total investment estimated at RMB10.7 billion (USD1.49 billion), the project is located in Jiulongpo District and covers an area of 1,379,000 square meters, with new floor area at around 500,000 square meters. The project consists of six subitems, including 200,000tpa aluminum circular economy project, high performance special ring production line project, 25,000tpa large-sized extrusion production line, high performance wide alloy strip production line project, medium-thick plate capacity expansion project and precision die forging production line project, which would double the company's advanced aluminum alloy materials production capacity to 1 million tonnes per annum. When operational, it is expected to achieve an annual production value of RMB15 billion (USD2.09 billion).
