BAI to expand alumina production capacity

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 18 Mar 24 - PT. Bintan Alumina Indonesia (BAI), a major alumina producer in Indonesia, plans to expand the annual production capacity to 3 million tonnes, up from 2 million tonnes, a source from the company reported to Asian Metal.
"We started the construction of a new production line with the production capacity of 1 million tonnes per year from early this year and might finish early next year," said the source, adding that the annual capacity would reach 3 million tonnes by early next year. Besides, they target 4 million tonnes per year two years later.
With present two production lines and the total production capacity of 2 million tonnes per year, they might produce over 160,000t this month, similar to last month and hold no stock now. They produced around 1.9 million tonnes last year and target 2 million tonnes this year.
Present mainstream prices for alumina 98.5%min keep at USD365-375/t FOB Indonesia, stable from late last week. For the large margins, alumina producers in Indonesia plan to expand alumina production capacity.
