Huajin Aluminum cuts alumina production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 26 Mar 24 - Guizhou Huajin Aluminum Co., a major alumina producer in southwest China, suspended one roasting furnace early this week and might produce 110,000t in March, down by around 20,000t from last month, a source from the company reported to Asian Metal.
"Our production volume might slip by 20,000t this month, as we suspended one roasting furnace for maintenance," said the source, adding that the regular maintenance might last for two weeks. Focusing on sales by long-term contracts, they hold no alumina in stock now.
With two production lines and the total production capacity of 1.6 million tonnes per year, they produced around 1.5 million tonnes in 2023 and over 300,000t so far this year.
Present mainstream prices for alumina 98.5%min in southwest China keep at RMB3,300-3,330/t (USD457-462/t) EXW, stable from late last week. As alumina producers in southwest China cut production, prices get support with thin spot sales.
