SPIC Zunyi cuts alumina production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 9 Apr 24 - SPIC Guizhou Zunyi Industrial Development Co., a major alumina producer in southwest China, would produce over 50,000t in April, down from around 70,000t last month, a source from the company reports to Asian Metal.
"We might produce over 50,000t this month, down by around 30% MoM," says the source, adding that they cut production mainly because of the reduced bauxite supply. Focusing on sales by long-term contracts, they hold no stock now.
With one production line and the production capacity of 1 million tonnes per year, they produced over 20,000t in the Q1 this year and close to 900,000t in 2023.
Present mainstream prices for alumina 98.5%min in southwest China keep at RMB3,340-3,380/t (USD462-467/t) EXW, stable from early this week. As alumina producers cut production in southwest China, producers remain confident in prices.
