BAI to launch alumina production by September 2024

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 9 Apr 24 - PT BAI, a new alumina producer in Indonesia, schedules to launch alumina production by September of 2024 with the annual production capacity of 1 million tonnes, a source from the company reports to Asian Metal.
"Our Mempawah alumina project would start production by this September," says the source, adding that the annual production capacity could reach 1 million tonnes.
Located in West Kalimantan of Indonesia, the alumina project started construction seven years ago with the investment budget of around USD830 million and designed production capacity of 2 million tonnes per year.
Current mainstream prices for alumina 98.5%min keep at USD370-375/t FOB Indonesia, stable from late last week. The alumina supply in Indonesia will increase due to the bauxite export ban.
