Vinacomin applies to expand alumina production capacity

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 12 Apr 24 - Vietnam National Coal Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin), the only alumina producer in Vietnam, plans to expand alumina production capacity to 2 million tonnes per year and the plan is pending for approval, a source from the company reports to Asian Metal.
"Our plan to expand alumina production capacity is pending for approval from the government," says the source, adding that they plan to expand the annual production capacity from 1.3 million tonnes to 2 million tonnes. Besides, they plan to build one aluminum smelting plant with the production capacity of 500,000tpy.
With present two production lines and the total production capacity of 1.3 million tonnes per year, they would produce around 100,000t in April, the same as last month and hold no stock now. They produced over 300,000t so far this year and around 1.3 million tonnes in 2023.
Present mainstream prices for alumina 98.5%min in Asian market keep at USD370-385/t excluding freight, stable from early this week. As aluminum smelters in Yunnan of China increase production, the demand for alumina improves.
