Chalco Shanxi to restart normal alumina production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 26 Apr 24 - Chalco Shanxi Aluminum Co., a major alumina producer in Shanxi of China, plans to restart normal production from late this month and might produce 80,000t of alumina in April, a source from the company reports to Asian Metal.
"We would restart normal production from late this month and might produce around 80,000t this month," says the source, who cut production from early this month due to bauxite shortage and produced around 120,000t in March with no stock now.
With five production lines and the total production capacity of 2.4 million tonnes per year, they produced around 360,000t during the Q1 this year and close to 1.4 million tonnes in 2023.
Current mainstream prices for alumina 98.5%min in north China keep at RMB3,350-3,400/t (USD462-469/t) EXW, up by around RMB50/t (USD7/t) from late last week due to the reduced alumina supply. Chinese alumina producers remain optimistic towards the price in the coming two weeks due to short bauxite supply.
