MMG's Kinsevere copper mine expansion project begins production

On September 20, MMG's Kinsevere copper mine in DRC produced the first batch of copper cathode using sulphide ores as the raw material, marking the successful completion of the Kinsevere expanison project, which is capable of producing 80,000 tonnes per annum of copper cathode at full capacity.
The expanison project has a new production system that processes sulphide ores and mixed ores into copper-cobalt concentrates, which are turned into semi-sulfated calcine through a 130 sq.m Cu-Co calciner, the biggest of its kind in the world to date. The semi-sulfated calcine is then used for hydrometallurgy process. In addition, the sulfur dioxide (SO2) from flue gases produced during the calcination process will be recycled to produce sulfuric acid used in the hydrometallurgy system.
