China unveils action plan to boost recycling of bauxite residue

China has issued an action plan for improving the comprehensive utilization of red mud, an industrial waste generated during the processing of bauxite into alumina, in its push for green development of the alumina industry.
The action plan calls for a 15% utilization rate of red mud by 2027 and 25% by 2030.
In 2023, China recycled 10.5 million tonnes of red mud, which is mainly used for extracting of iron oxide and for producing cementing material and powder material.
