China's Guangxi achieved major progress in mineral exploration during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), according to Bureau of Geology and Mineral Exploration and Development of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
By the end of 2024, Guangxi newly discovered 14 medium and large sized deposits for strategic minerals such as bauxite, manganese ore, fluorspar, tin and rare earth. In addition, the autonomous region identified resources of 4 . 8 billion tonnes of calcium carbonate, 1 . 5 billion tonnes of quartz sand and 360,000 tonnes of lead and zinc, which are urgently needed for the development of key industries.
Looking ahead, Guangxi plans to further expand exploration of strategic minerals including bauxite, manganese ore, tin, antimony and tungsten and aims to increase reserves of scarce strategic minerals like nickel and zirconium.
