In August, the antimony market was very dull. The antimony market experienced a round of price increase and then stabilized at RMB91,500-94,000/t (USD14,341-14,733/t) ex works till early August. However, as the demand was very weak, the price of antimony products began to drop from in early August. Within two weeks, the price of antimony ingot 99.65%min decreased by RMB6,000/t (USD940/t) to RMB85,500-88,000/t (USD13,401-13,793/t) ex works in mid-August. The price had been steady at that level for almost two weeks, but suppliers had high expectation to the market after European and Japanese customers come back from the summer holiday, and they started to raise their offers step by step. The price of antimony ingot 99.65%min rose from RMB85,500-88,000/t (USD13,401-13,793/t) to RMB88,500-91,000/t (USD13,871-14,263/t) ex works.
The price of antimony trioxide changed according to the price trend of antimony ingot. In early August, the price of antimony trioxide 99.5%min had stayed at RMB81,000-83,000/t (USD12,696-13,009/t) ex works for about one week, and then it began to go down to RMB77,000-79,000/t (USD12,069-12,382/t) ex works in latter part of August, however, suddenly it rebounded in line with that of antimony ingot. Till the end of August, the price of antimony trioxide 99.5%min rose by RMB2,000/t (USD313/t) to RMB79,000-81,000/t (USD12,382-12,696/t) ex works.
This round of price up and down was mainly caused by speculation. Though the price decreased and then increased, the demand did change obviously, and customers made purchase from hand-to-mouth and the market was inactive.
