Chinese alumina production up by 3.5% MOM in February

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 2 Mar 12 – According to latest data from Asian Metal, the alumina production rose by 3.5% MOM to 3.64 million tons in February 2012. China produced around 7.15 million tons of alumina totally in the past two months.

According to Asian Metal, the alumina production rose by 4.7% MOM to 943,000t in Henan province in February. Chalco Henan’s new alumina project with the capacity of 950,000tpy came on stream from late last year and the running annual capacity rose from 1.9 million tons to 2.4 million tons for the plant. Therefore, the alumina production rose more quickly in Henan province.

Shandong province remained the largest alumina production region, where the output reached 1.24 million tons in February, up by 2.5% MOM. Shandong Lubei Chemicals resumed normal production gradually in February and the production rose by 30,000t to 80,000t in the past month.

In March, some new alumina projects will come on stream in Shanxi, Shandong and Guizhou provinces, so the alumina production will rise a bit in these three provinces this month.
