Chinese aluminum alloy export to Thailand up by 108% in Jan MOM

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 8 Mar 12 – According to China Customs, Chinese aluminum alloy export to Southeast Asia was 5,660t in January, down by 17% compared with that in December 2011.
The big decrease of the export was mainly due to the long Spring Festival holiday in January and efficient work days reduced a lot. In addition participants also worried about the transportation during the holiday . As a result, Chinese exporters marked down their export volumes in advance.
Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia were the top three importers of Chinese aluminum alloy, with imports of 1,702t, 1,588t and 1,550t in January respectively.
In particular, Chinese aluminum alloy export to Thailand reached 820t in January, up by 108% compared with that in December 2011 and only down by 2% year-on-year.
Chinese aluminum alloy export to Thailand dropped a lot in the last quarter of 2011 due to the horrible flood in that country and many exporters said their orders from Thailand were almost delayed then. From December 2011, the export market to Thailand begins to recover and reached its normal level in January . However, some importers in Thailand reported that their equipment had almost ruined in the flood and they may consider relocating the plant to other countries, which will influence the export to Thailand in the future.
