Aluminum ingot price bumped up and down obviously as LME aluminum price. The expectation for simulating policies from Chinese government did not realize, having pessimistic impact on aluminum ingot price. Furthermore, the demand for aluminum products is still in the low level. All this pressed the price down in August. It fluctuated between RMB15,200/t (USD2,397/t) and RMB15,500/t (USD2,444/t) in the whole month.
Some new alumina capacity in Shanxi came on stream in August, which made the total production increase gradually. Besides, stocks of Australian origin alumina were still high, so the Chinese domestic alumina market went on decreasing as a whole. The losses of some plants were becoming bigger. Some Henan-based alumina producers chose to cut production in case to reduce stocks. At the meanwhile, some alumina customers in northwestern China planned to store some material in September.
