			Asian Metal meets Jean Goldschmidt
On the 7th October 2013 Asian Metal London analyst, Mark Moore, met with Thomas Dupont, sales manager of Jean Goldschmidt International, whilst Thomas was attending events hosted in London for the LME week. Jean Goldschmidt International originated from the trading of non-ferrous metal concentrates and residues from Peru. In 1985 the company acquired facilities which allowed them to beginning the recycling of non-ferrous metals bearing residues and their by products.
Mark and Thomas began by discussing the proposed conversation from lead to bismuth in solder as a result of legislation in the European Union. Thomas explained that although implantation dates approach many producers of solders still drag their feet due to the costs involved in changing to product. He added that we will see the products changed but not in the short term and any affect on the bismuth market is still way off.
Discussion moved on to cadmium with Mark noting the demand through early 2013 led to very tight availability and increases in cadmium prices through Q2 of 2013. Thomas confirmed this but added that although price increased by approximately 20% this is still well below historical prices. Thomas noted that the regulation surrounding cadmium usage in Europe has stifled the market but many applications are still found international.
Thomas confirmed recent news relating to the restriction coming into place on batteries for power tools explaining that producers will no longer be able to use NiCd batteries which will force modification to product lines.
Thomas praised the accuracy of Asian Metal’s market coverage and added that Jean Goldschmidt often refers to Asian Metals for news and pricing guides when entering into negotiation and contracts.
